Medical check-up: Every athlete, without exception, must present a medical certificate to participate in the Brasil Ride, this must prove that their physical conditions are excellent to perform the race. Without the presentation of this certificate the athlete will not be able to compete.
Vaccination against Hepatitis A, Yellow Fever, and Tetanus is vitally important. The athlete must be vaccinated at least 10 days before the race.
Due to the event being held in a very hot region, there is a risk of hyperthermia or “Heat Stroke”, even though there are points of hydration, characterizing a serious situation for athletes. Here are some recommendations.
Remember that thirst is a late sign that your body needs water, it can mean mild dehydration, do not wait to get to that point, always hydrate yourself, without exaggeration;
Prefer cold drinks and cold foods, drink isotonic drinks and water in large quantities;
Take advantage of nature, use rivers or waterfalls to bathe, constantly wet your body and especially your head;
Remember that dark clothes and caps make sweating difficult, the sun is cruel;
If you eat constantly, you will prevent hypoglycemia, it usually masks the feeling of thirst, in which case the situation tends to get worse;
You can wrap your water tanks with aluminum foil, this helps to keep the water fresh;
The sun causes burns, prevent yourself using sunscreens and suitable clothes, don't forget your lips;
The race is long and the friction (mainly the area that is on the bike seat), causes blisters and abrasions, you must use paste, petroleum jelly or high viscosity ointments, do not wait for the injury to use.
Wearing suitable gloves will prevent unwanted blisters on your hands;
It is very important that the athlete when he has any worrisome situation (intense muscle pain, when his urine is very red, if he suffers an important fall or if he is not feeling well), the athlete or whoever witnesses such a fact should: WARNING THE MEDICAL TEAM OR THE ORGANIZATION IS VITAL FOR YOUR SAFETY;
Each participant must have his First Aid Kit, the material and medicine of the medical team are to meet the emergency.
Avoid self-medication, any doubts about the correct use to the medical team will do all the guidance for you.
Note: If you have already had a severe allergic reaction, you should talk to your doctor to see if there is a need to bring a more potent medication. If there is a need, we advise you to purchase the EPIPEN® medication by import, which is already prepared for self-medication. If you are unable to do so, you should purchase an adrenaline ampoule and an “insulin syringe” as a second option and talk to the medical team for guidance on how to use it (how to prepare it, places and how to apply it).
Female athletes may experience the inconvenience of menstruation or premenstrual tension during competition. If there is such a risk, you should talk to your gynecologist, he will certainly control this situation with medication more effectively, avoiding menstruation and PMS (premenstrual tension) during this period.
Your documentation must always be with you, as well as cash in cash, the medical team is not responsible for any exams related to Doping Control;
If you respect your limits, not acting with recklessness and overconfidence, listening to your intuition and the alertness of your body, you will certainly minimize accidents a lot.
Remember that you are in contact with nature, the local population, your properties, your customs and especially your curiosity, invading your privacy, always respect in all situations.
booth
A Medical Post will be set up where the attendance will be given to athletes and other participants of the event, after each case evaluation, it will be medicated emergencyly at the medical post and, if necessary, the participant, upon indication, should buy the medicine in local pharmacies, this in rare situations.
Any and all accidents that require intervention by the medical team, the injured athlete's companion must wait by his side, without abandoning him, and wait for another competitor to notify the closest organization member, medical care will be performed in the shortest time. the situation of the place allows. After being attended to, if there is a need for referral to the hospital, the athlete's companion must follow the guidelines of the medical team on site.
Accidents can occur in places that are difficult to access. When this occurs, the rescue must be done by the race organization together with the medical team on site. Obviously this type of situation takes longer to attend.
If there is a serious accident where the athlete needs hospitalization, it is the responsibility of the medical team of the race to provide care until the case is passed to the local hospital team, with the follow-up of the treatment and removal to a more complex center, the responsibility of the athlete and your team. Except in very rare situations, discussed with the race organization. Ao pass the case to the local hospital staff, ethical point of view It's cool, you cannot interference with the procedures, treatment and protocols adopted, as well as on the dynamics of hospitals.
Always have your credit card, your health insurance and / or insurance documents with you, because during the race there are no costs for any assistance, but in other places that are met the charges will be the participant and not the organization of the race.
The agreement and or insurance should, if possible, offer air transportation (Aerial ICU), which is done by helicopter or airplane equipped for this type of transportation, as there are cases of accidents that require, in rare situations, that the athlete be taken to hospitals greater resource, better equipped, generally much more distant, even outside the state of Bahia. This is usually done by this means of transport. As this type of service is not the responsibility of the organization, check for this type of coverage in your plan.
Alert: in order to trigger an (Aerial ICU) for an athlete through health insurance or medical insurance, there will be a medical screening and the existing injuries must be serious, with imminent risk of life, otherwise the transport will be made by flights normal commercials. Check all the details of the clauses of your health insurance or medical rescue plan.
The medical team of the race, in rare situations, understands that an athlete does not have the conditions to continue in the race, due to injury or illness, has autonomy and authority to cut him. Such determination will be met by the direction of the race. But we will certainly do our best to not have to reach an extreme decision.
Medical Insurance or Health Insurance
See the Brasil Ride regulations for mandatory requirements and follow some alerts for hiring
Medical insurance or agreements. Don't forget to check the contract!
Check if the grace period meets the date of the test;
Check if it attends accident victims in voluntary risk sport like Mountain Bike. The agreements generally do not cover situations such as “risky” sports (example: motorcycling, mountain biking, mountain climbing, hang gliding, etc.). We will check the relevant clauses in your agreement;
Make sure to cover expenses related to hospitals in the region of the race, in good hospitals in your city of origin and not simply those linked to the agreement in question;
Your health insurance or medical insurance must cover other expenses, including exams, prolonged ICU stays, surgeries, medical supplies, prostheses, orthotics and fees of the professionals involved;
An important check is about the coverage in terms of aero medical transport (airplane-ICU) pay attention to the distance of the coverage. Foreign competitors should give greater importance to this coverage, as they may need medical transportation special to return to your country.
