Brasil Ride Bahia 2022 generates positive impacts on the region's economy

In seven days of ultramarathon, in addition to the trade and services movement, the event impacted almost 400 people in the generation of direct jobs in Guaratinga and Arraial

November 2022 - The 12th edition of Brasil Ride Bahia 2022 came to an end and was missed. But in addition to the beautiful moments, the delivery, the athletes' resilience and all the social legacy that the event represents, Brasil Ride generates an economic impact for the region and is considered the opening of summer in Arraial d'Ajuda.

Hotels with maximum occupancy, commerce and services with great movement and more than 400 direct jobs - in addition to indirect ones - make the event special for the economy of Guaratinga, which is waiting anxiously for the assembly of Vila Brasil Ride, in an area 14km from the center of the city of 21 thousand inhabitants.

Athletes, cyclists, enthusiasts, family members and friends of those who come to compete also take advantage of the region's leisure facilities. According to the organization of SBrasil Ride Bahia, the economic turnover is around R$ 13 million.

Importance - For the vice-mayor and Secretary of Tourism of the Municipality of Porto Seguro, Paulinho Toa Toa, Brasil Ride Bahia is very important for Porto Seguro and Arraial d'Ajuda.

"In addition to bringing great infrastructure and being the biggest mountain bike event in Latin America and the World, it involves world champions promoting visibility to the destination and also great movement to the trade, reflecting on hotels, restaurants and local commerce", he highlighted. Secretary also praised the professionalism of the organization of the event and the manager of the municipality, Jânio Natal, in supporting with the active participation of the municipal departments of Sport and Leisure, Public Services, Municipal Guard, Portran and Litoral Sul, investing in the sports tourism niche.

Hospitality - The hotel industry also reaps the benefits of the event with the ultramarathon and the Discoveries Marathon. Many hotels reach maximum occupancy. The participants - the majority coming from other Brazilian states and from 18 other countries, stay in Vilarejo, which becomes the capital of MTB cycling.

According to the owner of Hotel Maitei, Erika Sanches Pacheco, sport is part of the life of the manager and her children and understands its importance also as an economic generator, as it drives commerce, hotels and services, in addition to generating jobs and income. "Having an event of the size of Brasil Ride in Arraial d'Ajuda, just adds up. I think the event is incredible and I always follow it. This year, the hotel sponsored an athlete and more: we went to the Guarinis house. My team and I prepared everything with great affection, in every detail, from food, dj, among others. I loved the experience", he explained.

Social actions - Led by the Instituto Brasil Ride, or with the support of the entity, several social actions could be seen during the ultramarathon. The first of them had the participation of the organizers at Plogging na Praia, on October 16th. On the 21st, the meeting was with students from schools in Arraial d'Ajuda, in a lecture in which cycling was the protagonist. In Guaratinga, the participation of young people from the Capoeira de Guaratinga group and the city's Banda Martial, who performed at Vila Brasil Ride Bahia, also drew attention. For the next year, another action will be incorporated: the assistance of the medical cart, during one of the days of the race in Guaratinga, for the communities surrounding the Vila, in need of medical assistance.

A city within a city - The Vila built by Brasil Ride in Guaratinga is one of the highlights for ultramarathon participants. Surrounded by a chain of rocky mountains and under the beautiful starry sky that watches over Pedra do Oratório, Vila Brasil Ride houses a gigantic structure with 80 tons of equipment, in an area of ​​10 hectares, and capable of housing 1.100 people. To serve the public, two artesian wells 100 meters deep, with five pumps that extract and distribute 800 liters of water to various areas of the city, restaurants, including one for 700 people, underground wiring, bathrooms with hot showers, tents for sponsors and a complete medical cart.

The founder of Brasil Ride, Mario Roma talks about numbers and the grandeur of space. "The numbers are impressive, as more than 9 meals are served, 4.800 kg of pasta, 1.200 kg of rice and 10 tons of protein (beef, frank and fish) being consumed, not to mention 45 eggs and 4.000 dozen bananas" , scale.

Considered the Giro d'Itália of the world MTB, the ultramarathon starts in Uíki, on the day of delivery of the kits and continues until the last athlete enters, through the Brasil Ride gantry. According to Pedro Abreu, from Uíki, hosting this event is an honor, the choice of space could not be more assertive.

"This partnership, which has been going on for several years, is only consolidating. It was a dream for us, to bring a sporting and expressive event, which would bring the charm and footprint of the sport, which could generate impact and expectation and which would help us sell the destination through Sports Tourism. Every year, the event transforms and transforms the city, with the large number of people who arrive and participate in this type of Tourism, taking the name of Arraial and Porto Seguro to the world", he highlighted.

Ascending - To meet this growing demand, the businessman informs that he quintuples the number of employees in the house. “Brasil Ride brings a great staff: there are more than 200 people who come to perform during the ultramarathon. Our team also increases by about 5 times for service at the event. What we are looking for at Uíki is to bring events that can move the low season, such as Super Praia Med and Brasil Ride, which opens the summer season. It is a gain for us and for our destiny”, he concludes.
