Brasil Ride Bahia 2023: economic movement in the region is around R$13 million

The ultramarathon, which opens the season in Porto Seguro, moves commerce and services and generates temporary jobs in Guaratinga, Eunápolis and Arraial d'Ajuda

November 2023 – In its 13th Edition, Brasil Ride Bahia 2023, which crowned the Portuguese Tiago Ferreira champion and saw the farewell of the biggest name in the sport, Henrique Avancini, ended last Saturday, the 28th. In addition to the legacy in Sports, Brasil Ride , which leaves memories and longing, beautiful moments of joy and overcoming, and combines the social movement, sensitizing hundreds of people wherever it goes. The event - considered the opening of the season in Arraial d'Ajuda - generated an economic impact for the region that reached R$13 million, according to the event organizers.

Direct temporary jobs alone total more than 400. There are also indirect ones, as hotels, commerce and services are very busy. According to the Brazilian Hotel Industry Association (Abih), hotel occupancy on the date of the event exceeded 65%. The entity also stated that the movement also extended to homes served via AirBnb. Athletes, cyclists, enthusiasts, family and friends of those who come to compete also take advantage of the region's leisure facilities. 

For the manager of the Hotel Paraíso do Morro, Patricia Livramento, who received athletes from the competition and also the Guarini Sunset - a welcome event for Brasil Ride participants, who completed the race more than 3 times, spoke of the importance of Brasil Ride Bahia . 

“Brasil Ride is an event expected throughout the year and that moves several sectors of the economy of the Arraial Dajuda district in a significant way, generating jobs, boosting tourism, stimulating local commerce and promoting economic growth in general”, he highlighted.

Guaratinga - The event is also special for the economy of Guaratinga, which is anxiously awaiting the construction of Vila Brasil Ride, in an area 14km from the city center of almost 20 thousand inhabitants. According to the founder of Brasil Ride, Mario Roma, the village built in Guaratinga is one of the highlights for ultramarathon participants. Surrounded by a chain of rocky mountains and under the beautiful starry sky that watches over Pedra do Oratório, 'city' receives a gigantic structure with 80 tons of equipment, in an area of ​​10 hectares, and capable of housing 1.100 people. 

“To serve the participating public and employees, two 100-meter-deep artesian wells, with five pumps that extract and distribute 500 liters of water to various areas of the “city”, restaurants, including one for 700 people, underground wiring, bathrooms with hot water showers, tents for sponsors and a complete medical trailer are installed on site. This ensures that everyone has a peaceful and safe stay”, he states.

Transfer – Mario Roma also highlights that the changes to the test also impacted other sectors of the economy. “Our visit to Eunápolis – the new destination of Brasil Ride 2023 – also impacted the city. In addition to moving the population that traveled to Casa Trancoso, which received our athletes. Their transfer was carried out by 6 buses. The bikes were packed and packed in three trailers, arriving safely for the next stage,” he said.   

For the Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Civil House of Porto Seguro City Hall, Josemar Siquara, Brasil Ride Bahia is a very important event for the region. 

“Once again hosting an edition of Brasil Ride has a direct impact on the city’s economy, with more than 5 thousand people, including athletes, family members and professionals involved, staying in Porto Seguro generating revenue for the city, as well as a large amount of spontaneous media to the destination in communication vehicles around the world. Furthermore, we go down in history with the farewell of Henrique Avancini, who chose Arraial d'Ajuda, to end his career in which he was 23 times Brazilian champion, twice in the world championship, among many other podiums”, highlighted the secretary of the Civil House , Josemar Siquara.

Another important event was the awards ceremony held in front of the NS d'Ajuda Sanctuary, on the night of Thursday, the 26th, which also brought together the population at the Public Awards Ceremony. This social movement also influences local commerce and restaurants.

Social actions - Led by the Brasil Ride Institute, social actions could be seen during the ultramarathon. The first of them was on the 22nd, in a meeting with students from schools in Arraial d'Ajuda. In Guaratinga, the action included the participation of young people from the Capoeira de Guaratinga group and the city's Martial Band, in addition to visits by students to visit Vila Brasil Ride and be closer to the world's MTB idols.

UCI – The commissioner of the International Cycling Union (UCI), Cyndi Smith also highlighted the importance of Brasil Ride Bahia. The commissioner followed the 7 days of the ultramarathon and was able to see the MTB event in Bahia up close and was enchanted by what she could experience.

“It’s an incredible event. This is my first time here and every moment is a surprise. There are so many spectacular views. The ocean, the mountains, the landscapes, simply everything is wonderful. The camp was amazing. I have never experienced anything like this in a race, with everyone together, professionals and amateurs, besides the Marathon of Discoveries”, she revealed, fascinated by the diversity of landscapes and experiences lived during the week of the race and her perception of the incredible amount of work involved. .

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Sports, via the Sports Incentive Law, presents Brasil Ride Bahia 2023. Sponsorships from Mitsubishi, Continental Pneus, Shimano and Unidas – Car Rental, Garmin, Red Bull, HB, Full Gas, Coca Cola, Thule and Postos Rede Torres. It has government support from the Government of the State of Bahia, Sudesb, City Hall of Porto Seguro, City Hall of Guaratinga and City Hall of Eunápolis. Institutional support from ICMBio, Pau Brasil National Park and Alto Cariri National Park. Certification of the International Cycling Union (UCI), Brazilian Cycling Confederation (CBC) and FBC (Bahia Cycling Federation). The organization is from the Brasil Ride Institute.
