Porto Seguro (BA) - The ninth edition of Brasil Ride, the main mountain bike ultramarathon in the Americas and one of the most difficult events of its kind in the world, ended this weekend, when it gathered on Saturday (27) more than 2.000 cyclists in Arraial d'Ajuda, Porto Seguro . On the last day of the event, around 540 athletes from 22 countries competed in the ultramarathon and another 1.500 participants from four countries and 20 states, in addition to the Federal District, in the Marathon of the Discoveries. For the organization of the event, after intense days in the extreme south of Bahia, the feeling was, once again, of mission accomplished.
"For the ninth consecutive year we held the Brasil Ride ultramarathon, with the certainty that we did our job in the best possible way. Therefore, we would like to thank everyone who once again trusted our organization, whether competing in the ultramarathon or the Marathon of the Discoveries. The Brasil Ride 2019 discount registrations have already run out, which we call Early Bird, and we are close to reaching half of the 500 open places ", said Mario Roma, founder of the event.
"I received news from some hostels in Arraial d'Ajuda confirming reservations for athletes already for the period of Brasil Ride 2019, scheduled for October 21st to 27th. In other words, everything indicates that we will have a historic edition, the 10 year our main event, which will have a lot of news, mainly in terms of the stages' route ", revealed Mario Roma, the founder of Brasil Ride.
In the dispute of the male elite, who offered 120 points to the champions in the Olympic and international cross country rankings (XC), Henrique Avancini (BRA) and Manuel Fumic (GER) were the champions, with a time of 21h07min54sec. New Brasil Ride category in 2019 - Aiming at the exchange between sports related to cycling, the organization of Brasil Ride launched, during the ninth edition, a new category that debuts in the tenth year of the event: Iron Rider. It is a category for athletes who have participated at least twice in long distance triathlon events. "It will be very simple for the athlete to prove his registration in this new category. It will be enough to send us the certificate of completion of two long distance triathlon", said Mario Roma.
"The idea is to bring more people to mountain biking and add to the sport, having even more MTB practitioners. I see that in this case everyone likes to bike and practice sports and so we should be a single community. These triathletes can give their testimony of them in the future, telling us what is more difficult: training and competing in a long distance triathlon or doing the same to compete in the seven days of Brasil Ride ", concluded Roma.
New in the 24h MTB World Championship 2019 - Scheduled to be played for the first time in Brazil next year, the 24h Solo Mountain Bike World Championship 2019, on the 27th and 28th of July, brings a novelty to the national sport. For the first time, the event will have the PNE category - People with Special Needs -, after a request made by the organization of Brasil Ride, the mountain bike and mountain race circuit that most promotes the sport among PNE athletes.
Overcoming PNE's at Brasil Ride - Brasil Ride showed once again that nothing is impossible when you have willpower. This is the case of the pair formed by Bruno Paim, 19, a cyclist who does not have both arms, and Everson Batista, 35, who has a prosthesis in his left leg. After seven days of competition, Bruno and Everson crossed the finish line of the last stage of the competition and became finishers, with an accumulated time of 38h47min41sec, in the 184th overall position, among the 204 pairs that managed to complete the ultramarathon.
Red Bull Zeroes the Peak - Brasil Ride athletes had an extra motivation in the fourth stage of the race, with 101 km of distance and 2.600 m of accumulated altimetry. The Red Bull Zera o Pico challenge was a mountain prize on the ascent of the Seven Laps, considered the most difficult of all competition. For almost two kilometers, cyclists needed to “zero” the slope, that is, without putting their feet on the ground, being worth the titles for competitors in the professional and amateur categories, male and female. However, the climb was so difficult that no woman managed to zero. The first men were Henrique Avancini and Lucas Gomes, awarded with a special jersey and received on Saturday (27) a special trophy delivered by Red Bull.
The ninth edition of Brasil Ride had Specialized, Shimano, Caixa and Unidas - Rental Cars as sponsors. The Government of Bahia, through SUDESB (Superintendence of Sports of the State of Bahia) and Bahiatursa (Superintendence of Promotion of Tourism of the State of Bahia), also sponsored the ultramarathon, while the municipalities of Porto Seguro and Guaratinga are among the supporters. of the event.
