Current runner-up in the world, Kristian Hynek returns to Brasil Ride after two titles in 2010/2011

Czech cyclist is among the favorites of the tenth edition of the ultramarathon, scheduled for October 20 to 26, in the extreme south of Bahia. He will team up with his compatriot Martin Stosek, seventh in the World Marathon in Switzerland

Sao Paulo-SP) - With the strongest squad in ten years of history, mountain bike lovers are already beginning to live up to the expectations of Brasil Ride 2019. In a few days, the district of Arraial d'Ajuda, in Porto Seguro (BA), will start to be taken by cyclists from all over the world. They arrive in search of the challenge of completing what many consider to be the toughest ultramarathon on the planet, between October 20 and 26. Two Czech cyclists, Kristian Hynek and Martin Stosek, will land in the extreme south of Bahia with favorites credentials, especially if they take into account recent results.

Kristian Hynek and Martin Stosek were both featured in the last edition of the World Marathon Championship (XCM) held in Grachen, Switzerland, on September 22nd. While Hynek fought for the title until the final moments, completing just 26 seconds behind Colombia's champion Leonardo Paéz, Stosek also played a great role, finishing seventh, just over four minutes after the Colombian. Other cyclists confirmed in the tenth edition did well at the event, such as Alexey Medvedev (RUS), in fourth place, and Ole Hem (NOR) and Tiago Ferreira (POR), in 13th and 20th, respectively.

If the excellent current result was not enough, Hynek arrives in Bahia with an added weight in favoritism with Stosek. That's because he won the first two editions of the event, in 2010 and 2011, alongside his compatriot Robert Novotny. Robert will also be in the tenth edition of Brasil Ride, however, acting on the staff of the team of the two Czechs, accumulating functions as team leader and mechanic.

"Of course I remember those two years, it was a very intense experience. We had a lot of rain and also several days with super high temperatures and a lot of humidity. It was difficult to run in these conditions and it was basically my first experience with step racing. Robert and I managed to win in two years, but certainly one thing that remains on my mind is Robert’s fall in the last stage, in 2010, about a kilometer from the end. That was very bad, but he recovered and, the following year, we won the title again ", recalls Hynek.

In addition to thanking his partner in the second championship, Hynek also praises the current partner in the dispute. "Robert has been a great support person for a long time for me and someone very important in my cycling career. He proved to be a complete guy and a perfect and precise mechanic. So we will have the best support possible," evaluates Hynek.

"Martin is a rising star. This is his first marathon season and he has already shown some surprising results - winning the UCI Marathon Series in ELBA, winning the Dolomiti Superbike and reaching a fantastic seventh place in the World Championship in Switzerland. So , I believe that, if we can keep our shape until Brasil Ride starts, we should be ready to fight for the first places ", concludes Hynek.

Debutant looking forward to the challenge - Playing a race for the first time always has a special taste. In the case of Brasil Ride, it is to know that the motto: "more than a test, a stage in your life", will certainly make sense after seven days. "I know it is a difficult race, full of good cyclists and it is important to be well prepared for that. I am looking forward to the adventure. I hope to enjoy the race and also enjoy the beauty of nature," says Stosek. "It is very special to race with Kristian. It is a great pleasure to compete in this famous race with him. For me, it will be an advantage to have him by my side, because he won the Brasil Ride twice. It will also be a good training for the races of stage that I will have ahead ", he completes.

Special mechanic for Brasil Ride - Robert Novotny will be important for the pair not only for what he can do technically, as a team mechanic, but also for the knowledge of the race. Unlike Hynek and Stosek, Novotny has already competed in the current stage of Brasil Ride, in the extreme south of Bahia. "I know Brasil Ride from different points of view, as a cyclist, physiotherapist and mechanic. I ran in this new version, I know the route, so I know that anything can happen. Heat, rain, steep climbs. I believe in the third title of the Kristián. In my opinion, Brasil Ride is a wonderful event ", highlights Novotny.

Star Squad - Winning the third title will not be an easy task for Hynek alongside Stosek. At least six other teams must fight for the title: Henrique Avancini and Manuel Fumic, from Cannondale Factory Racing, defending the position of current champions of the event; Jaroslav Kulhavy and his compatriot Matous Ulman, heavyweight rookies for Specialized Racing; Tiago Ferreira and Hans Becking, both champions in previous editions, forming the DMT Racing Team; 2016 champion Alexey Medvedev, again with Italian Francesco Failli; CST Sand American Eagle MTB Racing Team duo Sebastian Fini and Ole Hem (NOR); and, from South America, the current champions of La Leyenda del Dorado, the Colombians Johan and Johnatan Cañaveral.

The other Brazilian stars - If Henrique Avancini is the only Brazilian in the pairs considered favorites to win the title, the intermediate squad has renowned cyclists from Brazil, who can fight for a place on the podium of the stages, as well as for the shirt of leaders of the Americas. These are the cases of: Mario Verissimo and Bruno Lemes, from Squadra Oggi; Sherman Trezza and Guilherme Muller, from Cannondale Brasil Racing; the Swiss naturalized Brazilian Lukas Kaufmann with his partner Konny Looser (SUI), from FKS Factory Racing; Halysson Ferreira and Nicolas Machado, from the Tropix Factory Racing Team; Daniel Zoia and José Gabriel Almeida, for Corinthians Audax Bike Team; Ricardo Pscheidt and Gilberto Goes, from Orbea Team Brasil; Edson Rezende and Nicolas Sessler, from Caloi Avancini Team.

Women's Elite eyeing Tokyo 2020 - With Brazil fighting for points to guarantee a spot in Tokyo 2020 on women's mountain biking, the ultramarathon becomes even more important, as it offers 120 points to its champions in the Olympic ranking. Cyclists confirmed as the three-time Brazilian champion in 2019, Letícia Cândido, alongside Hercília Najara, the two-time champion of Brasil Ride, Raiza Goulão competing with the experienced Colombian Angelita Parra, and the Venezuelans Katherine Lindo and Florangela Rodriguez. The young revelation of the national MTB, Karen Olimpio, in partnership with the experienced Portuguese Ilda Pereira, and Viviane Favery, with Tânia Clair Pickler, are also among the favorites on the podium. Country leader in the Olympic ranking, Jaqueline Mourão awaits confirmation from her partner to join the ultramarathon squad.

The countries - The 570 registered in the tenth edition of the ultramarathon represent the following countries: Germany, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Cyprus, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Spain, United States, Ecuador, France, Holland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, Czech Republic, Russia, Switzerland and Venezuela.

Tenth Edition - Considered the Giro d'Itália of the world MTB, the ultramarathon scheduled for October 20-26, in the Extreme South of Bahia, offers a strong challenge for the 570 participants from 24 countries. For seven days, they face about 600 km and almost 11.000 m of accumulated altimetry, between trails and dirt roads that connect Arraial d'Ajuda, in Porto Seguro, to Guaratinga, at Vila Brasil Ride. On the last day of the competition, on Saturday (26), more than 1.500 cyclists from all over the country join the stars of international mountain biking for the dispute of the Marathon of the Discoveries. A unique opportunity to cycle and see up close the best mountain bikers in the world.

The Brasil Ride ultramarathon is sponsored by the Government of Bahia, through SETRE, Bahiatursa and SUDESB, Land Rover, Shimano, Specialized and Unidas. Coca-Cola, Conect Car, Ful Gas, Garmin, LAF Corretora de Seguros, La Maglia, Oakley, Red Bull, Shop2gether, Squirt, Thule and Vittoria are supporting companies, as well as the municipalities of Porto Seguro and Guaratinga, as well as the Park Nacional do Pau Brasil, are institutional supporters of the event.
