Brasil Ride consolidates itself as the world's leading premium mountain bike stage race

Tenth edition held between 20 and 26 October recorded several accolades by renowned cyclists of the international squad

Sao Paulo-SP) - If on the trails cyclists wrote their names when participating in the historic tenth edition of Brasil Ride, from October 20 to 26, in Arraial d'Ajuda, in Porto Seguro, and Guaratinga, in the extreme south of Bahia, outside of them the accolades were countless by the stars that made up this sports party. The race, which was considered by many as the main mountain biking ultramarathon in the Americas, had its status elevated in the opinion of athletes, as the most premium among the stage races in the world MTB.

In terms of structure, Brasil Ride really stands out, being full service. Among the highlights is the Shimano Neutral Support service, which provides mechanical assistance to all cyclists during the race, regardless of the brand of components on your bike, and the lava-bike performed by Squirt, in which after each stage the athlete leaves your bicycle in the brand's tent and then remove them clean, without worrying about the subject.

At Vila Brasil Ride, in Guaratinga, the organization sets up a true city for more than 1.100 people, with quality breakfast and dinner, as well as all the necessary hygiene facilities with bathrooms and showers. "All of this seems easy, but it is not. It takes ten years of dedication and persistence to hold a global mega event in a country where cycling has no tradition and is starting to take off", commented Mario Roma, founder of Brasil Ride

World champion in 2018 and three-time champion of Brasil Ride (2013/17/18), Henrique Avancini makes his evaluation of the event. "This year we had a much larger number of strong athletes in the elite squad and this shows how much the competition has been growing and improving in the participation of international competitors. Therefore, I place Brasil Ride as one of the toughest on the planet. I also highlight the Brazilian ultramarathon for the difficulty of the terrain itself. I usually say that, for the amateur, the one who participates in races with the aim of concluding, is the most difficult race in the world to be held globally speaking. An event that tests the capacity of a person to complete a great challenge ", said Avancini

Two-time champion of Brasil Ride after winning in 2012 and 2019, the Portuguese Tiago Ferreira, who still accumulates titles of world and European champion of Marathon (XCM), is one of the cyclists that validates this condition of main stage race premium of MTB. "The leap in quality this year was very noticeable. That is why, in my opinion, Brasil Ride has consolidated itself as the main stage mountain bike event in the world, and I think it will soon be consolidated as the best among all of MTB, regardless of how long it takes, "said Tiago.

The biggest champion of the ultramarathon alongside Henrique Avancini and the Czech Jiri Novak, also with three titles, the Dutchman Hans Becking praises the event. "The big difference is that Brasil Ride is much more familiar. At Cape Epic, for example, after the stage you go into the trailer and don't see other people. There is more stress and a restricted organization. At Brasil Ride, I love talking to the other cyclists, having an açaí at night and getting to know the opponents that fight with me all week. That makes us breathe MTB, with concepts of family and friendship. See where Mario Roma started and what he has evolved in just ten years is impressive. And, if he continues like this, Brasil Ride will surely be the biggest MTB race in the world soon ", evaluated Hans.

Olympic champion Jaroslav Kulhavy, winner of the XCO (Olympic Cross Country) in London 2012, also makes his record. "It is difficult to say if it is the most difficult among the stages in the world. I mean, these are more factors, such as the quality of the main professional drivers. For me, Brasil Ride is on the same level as Cape Epic. Brazil, are probably the most difficult climbs. The (hot) climate is also difficult during the race, "said Kulhavy.

Champion eight times of Brasil Ride and tetra of Cape Epic, always in the master category, the cyclist Abraão Azevedo also opines. "I have already run several times with Bart Brentjens in both races, where we have several titles won together. I can say that the dispute in Bahia is much tougher than the South African ultramarathon," said Abraão.

Media return - With a record of media professionals working at the event, more than 50 people, the tenth edition of Brasil Ride will reach impressive numbers with regard to media return. So far, more than R $ 43 million in returns have been calculated, with the measurement of outstanding displays still missing, such as the NHK TV channel in Japan, which will feature an exclusive 90-minute program on the event, printed publications such as Revista Bike, from Costa Rica, and Bike Magazine, from Portugal, among other online and electronic media returns. In all, more than 9.600.000 people were directly impacted by social networks - Instagram, Facebook and YouTube - when watching the live streams and the videos released.

Economic impact - Both the ultramarathon and the Marathon of the Discoveries, held on October 26, contributed to Arraial d'Ajuda, in Porto Seguro, reaching the maximum capacity of the hotel chain, that is, very close to 100%. Considering that the event brought together more than 6.000 people in this period, it is estimated that more than R $ 10 million of economic impact in the region, with an average ticket of around R $ 385 per person, according to data from the municipality. In addition to the occupation in Arraial d'Ajuda, Brasil Ride also contributed to the economy of small Guaratinga, 130 km further south of Bahia, the other venue of the competition.

A city is built - The organization of the event annually builds a city for 1.100 people on a farm 14 kilometers from Guaratinga. It is a gigantic structure with 80 tons of equipment, set up in an area of 10 hectares for four days of tests. There are 1.100 tents, two artesian wells 100 meters deep, with five pumps that extract and distribute 800 thousand liters of water to different areas of the city, tents for restaurants, including one for 700 people, 10 km of underground wires, 48 showers with hot water, nine tents for sponsors and a complete medical cart.

Five star food - For two months, the event team transforms a pasture area for cattle into a complete city, with underground wiring, areas for food, baths and bathrooms and three different areas with tents for athletes and staff. Impressive numbers, since more than 9 thousand meals are served, with 4.800 kg of pasta, 1.200 kg of rice and 10 tons of protein (beef, frank and fish) being consumed, not to mention 45 thousand eggs and 4.000 dozen banana. All this to support the 570 cyclists and support teams, with more than 300 people in the organization.

10th edition countries - 570 cyclists from 23 countries participated in the tenth edition of the ultramarathon: Germany, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Cyprus, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Spain, United States, Ecuador, France, Holland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Czech Republic, Russia, Switzerland and Venezuela.

Tenth edition - Considered the Giro d'Itália of the world MTB, the ultramarathon held from October 20 to 26, in the Extreme South of Bahia, was a strong challenge for the participants. For seven days, they faced about 600 km and almost 11.000 m of accumulated altimetry, between trails and dirt roads that connect Arraial d'Ajuda, in Porto Seguro, to Guaratinga, at Vila Brasil Ride. On the last day of the competition, this Saturday (26th), more than 2.000 cyclists from all over the country join the stars of the international mountain bike for the dispute of the Marathon of the Discoveries.

The Brasil Ride ultramarathon was sponsored by the Government of Bahia, through SETRE, Bahiatursa and SUDESB, Land Rover, Shimano, Specialized and Unidas. Coca-Cola, Conect Car, Ful Gas, Garmin, LAF Corretora de Seguros, La Maglia, Oakley, Red Bull, Shop2gether, Squirt, Thule and Vittoria are supporting companies, as well as the municipalities of Porto Seguro and Guaratinga, as well as the Park Nacional do Pau Brasil, are institutional supporters of the event.
